MH&A was established in 1991 by Mike Hurworth.
Michael had been employed with Savage & Lovemore and Kantey & Templer prior to that, where he had gained valuable experience in the construction and consulting fields.
The changing nature of the construction industry and the statutory requirements for employment equity resulted in Mutaba Allie joining the practice as a senior staff member, and together combining their skills – and recruiting other experienced technical individuals to establish MH&A (M Hurworth & Associates) as a larger more representative practice.

Although the aim was to fulfil the employment equity requirements, the management staff had to have the experience and technical skills necessary to run a competent consulting practice.
MH&A although still fully owned by Mike Hurworth, is now a consulting practice that represents the cultural diversity of South Africa.
In 2000, Mike Hurworth and Mutaba Allie established MUTABA HURWORTH & ASSOCIATES as a BBEEE Company, to satisfy the employment equity requirements.
In 2008 MH&A NIGERIA (PTY) LIMITED was established to satisfy a growing demand for Civil and Structural Expertise in Nigeria.
